Geek Vibes Nation is proud to announce the nominees for the 2024 edition of the Geek Vibes Nation Critics Choice Awards. Now in its second year, the GVN CCAs are a recognition of achievement over the previous year in film determined by the critics and writers at Geek Vibes Nation. Our wide variety of categories recognize achievement both above and below the line, highlighting the work of both on-screen and off-screen talent. Organized by Editor-in-Chief Cainan Myracle and Senior Critic Larry Fried, nominations were held throughout December and January. The final winners will be announced at a later date in February.

This year, we are excited to be recognizing over 50 films across 30 categories. Despite the variety, one title stood above the rest: Barbie. Greta Gerwig’s megahit leads with 17 nominations, including Best Picture. This ties the film with last year’s leader, Everything Everywhere All at Once, which took home 11 wins including the aforementioned top prize. Trailing close behind is its Barbenheimer counterpart, Oppenheimer. Christopher Nolan’s biographical behemoth contends with a strong 13 nominations, also including Best Picture.
Other heavily decorated films include the Emma Stone-led Poor Things and Martin Scorsese’s Osage crime epic Killers of the Flower Moon, both of which landed in the double digits at 12 and 10 nominations respectively. Films leading in the single digits include Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (8), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (7), The Holdovers, and Past Lives (both at 5). Though not as widely recognized, our body of critics were also eager to spotlight films that have gone overlooked throughout awards season, including Best Picture nominees The Iron Claw and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.
Last year, we strove to nominate a diverse array of talent. This year continues that trend. Three of our Best Picture nominees are directed by women and four of our ten nominated screenplays were either written or co-written by women. In addition, nine performers of color are recognized across each of our six performance-based categories, including our unique “Best Vocal of Motion Capture Performance” award.
Along with diversity in race and gender, GVN continues to highlight diversity in genre with our four special Genre Achievement categories for Comedy, Action/Adventure, Science Fiction/Fantasy, and Horror. Nominated films include Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Talk To Me, The Creator, Bottoms, John Wick: Chapter 4, and more.
GVN readers are encouraged to once again participate in this year’s vote for the Audience Award, our elusive 30th category, presented to a film that has captured our fans’ attention. You can click on this link to cast your ballot, with the winner announced alongside the rest of the mainline categories.
The GVN CCA voting body consists of the over 30 critics currently contributing to Geek Vibes Nation. Each voter was given access to a secure, private voting link through which they nominated films and talent using a personalized write-in ballot. These ballots were then tabulated through a preferential voting system.
