[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”25276″ img_size=”411×631″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Have I once said anything bad about the Martian Manhunter comic? No. I’m not going to start now. Because, this series gives me nothing bad to say. We get down to what really happened to J’onn J’onnz and his family in issue number six. And it is certainly heartbreaking.
The way that J’onn’s species merge with each other should be, for lack of better words; disgusting. They’re drawn as blobs intertwining with the other. It’s slightly grotesque. But, in the context of the story, it’s absolutely beautiful. We see the moment that J’onn and his beloved decided to create another being. This gave J’onn a daughter, a family that he wanted desperately to protect.
In many stories, something tragic does often arise from one’s desire to do what is right. This is what happens in this issue. A plague is overtaking his planet and in an attempt to spare his family, he makes a deal with those that he shouldn’t have. And it ends up costing him everything. That was most likely a little bit of a spoiler, but I won’t ruin exactly what he does to doom his loved ones.
There are only really two pages that take place in the current day. The rest of a backstory, which was needed, and was tragic. I think I even got a little misty-eyed towards the end. Martian Manhunter #6 is a tragic and beautiful issue that you need to get right away!
