In a surprise twist of timing today, James Gunn partnered with David Corenswet on social media to reveal a full look at the latter’s Superman suit, for the upcoming and heavily anticipated release of the same name.
The picture, which marks the first official photo for the film outside of brief, cryptic teases, features Corenswet’s iteration of the hero pulling on a big red boot, sporting a forlorn expression as what is assumed to be Metropolis is ravaged in the background by some large energized entity, one that some fans have speculated is a villain from the comics known as Solaris the Tyrant Sun.
His getup, clearly tattered by this point in the film, provides a better look at the film’s version of the iconic Superman logo centered on the chest, as well as confirmation of a belt and the oft-discussed red trunks. Beyond the costume, Corenswet’s Kal-El rocks the classic hair curl to a tee, rounding off the look with a reverential, resounding win.
The image was simply captioned “Get ready.” Gunn also tagged the post “#Superman”, included the date of release, which is currently July 11, 2025, and noted that the photo was taken entirely in-camera. As if fans weren’t excited enough, the hype surrounding the film has officially shot through the roof.
Before this first official look, it was confirmed that Corenswet would star as Clark alongside Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane. A bevy of additional castings have also been announced, which are as follows: Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Taylor Vince and Neva Howell as Pa/Ma Kent, respectively, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardener/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, Maria Gabriela as The Engineer, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Terence Rosemore as Otis. Mill Alcock has also been cast as the wider cinematic universe’s Supergirl, who will not only appear in this film but get her own movie a little down the line that adapts the popular comic run Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The cast is stacked as-is, and it’s likely far from complete if the timeline of release and Gunn’s hints at bigger plans for the DCU, which the film will debut on the big screen, are any indication.
What little we know about the plot suggests that the film won’t be an origin story, as is usual, but will instead explore the early years of Superman’s life as he attempts to balance the human needs with superhero responsibilities. It’s the ever-reliable Clark Kent/Kal-El dichotomy, and Gunn looks to be getting right to the heart with this story.
