[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”26618″ img_size=”878×494″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Earlier this week, we shared that former One Direction frontman Harry Styles is in talks to play Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action version of The Little Mermaid. After a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, however, it was revealed that Shazam star Asher Angel also auditioned for the role.
The DisInsider reports that Variety’s own Justin Kroll claimed that hiring Styles “still may be on the fence” and that Disney’s decision for who will play the role of Eric is still in the early stages.
According to ET, Angel is now one of the finalists for the role and he seemed very excited to potentially work on this project and to co-star alongside Halle Bailey who will play as Ariel.
Lately, there has been a lot of conversation regarding the future cast for Disney’s upcoming live-action remake. We have also covered that Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play as the main villain Ursula and that Javier Bardem could possibly star in the role of King Triton.
There is still no word on a release date for the film but production is scheduled to start next January. There is a chance we may hear more news at Disney’s D23 Expo next month.
