Vincent D’Onofrio, the actor who portrays the iconic villain Kingpin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has announced that his character’s controversial floral-print shirt and blazer ensemble from Hawkeye will not make a comeback in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series. The actor spoke to ComicBook.com and revealed that they will be going back to Kingpin’s traditional look.
” If you were to look back at all the other comics except for Family Business and see the different iterations of Kingpin, the way he dresses and the way his appearance is, I would say we’re still doing the kind of later runs look of Daredevil. When it comes to Kingpin, we’re still doing that kind of feel.”
Kingpin’s appearance in Hawkeye was divisive among fans, with many expressing disappointment in the character’s deviation from his traditional suave three-piece suits. However, D’Onofrio defended the decision to wear the floral-print shirt, explaining that it was inspired by a Kingpin graphic novel called Family Business.
D’Onofrio also revealed that the Daredevil series will feature sequences inspired by the comic’s artwork. “Just the other day, one of the directors, we were doing a scene and he’s like, ‘Gosh, this is really kind of reminiscent of…,’ And I’m like, ‘Yep,'” he said.
Kingpin is a key villain in the Daredevil comics, and D’Onofrio’s portrayal of the character was widely praised during the show’s original run on Netflix. The upcoming Born Again series is expected to draw heavily from the comic’s source material, which sees Kingpin destroy Matt Murdock’s life after discovering his secret identity.
D’Onofrio’s confirmation that Kingpin will return to his traditional look is likely to be welcome news for many fans, who have been eagerly anticipating the character’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It remains to be seen what other surprises and changes await audiences in the upcoming Daredevil series.
