New season. New sleeve. Altered Carbon’s official twitter sent out today, announcing the renewal for a second season. The sci-fi show based on the book by Richard Morgan will return to Netflix with eight episodes, instead of the ten it had in season one. Premiering on February 2, 2018, this wildly imaginative show gauged mixed reactions, though; if you ask me, is definitely one of my favorites on the online streaming service. Primarily played by Joel Kinnaman, the show centers around Takeshi Kovacs as he awakes 250 years after originally being sentenced to a lifetime of being essentially decommissioned. We…

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]While we all love a box-office action-packed movie that cost millions to make, smaller budgeted films are near and dear to my heart. The simple story, the limited sets, and unknown actors can make for some of the most authentic storytelling, rather than relying on special effects and clichés. Some of my favorite movies include One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Girl, Interrupted. If you can see the pattern, I clearly enjoy films taking place within mental asylums. That’s what drew me to take a look at the 2014 Canadian film, Cruel and Unusual. Taking only 15 days to…

Cue the music! After a long and breath-holding journey, Disney and Fox have finally agreed upon a deal! For $71.3 billion dollars, Disney will purchase most of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire. Even though shareholders in six different countries still need to give their approval, this is a massive step for everyone, essentially shaking up the entertainment industry. If everything goes well, we will have a finalized deal in 2019. We had a moment where it seemed like this deal would not go through, with Comcast lurking in to potentially purchase Fox. Luckily, Comcast dropped out recently and the event we…

While movies and television shows have been trying to rectify the lack of diversity, the representation of the transgender community needs a serious boost. That’s why the news that Supergirl has casted activist and actress Nicole Maines as tv’s first transgender superhero is such a great first step in the right direction. Having previously worked on Royal Pains, the news of Maines’ casting was revealed at the Supergirl SDCC panel on Sunday. The actress’s character will be Nia Nal, a new addition at CatCo, who is a fierce and driven reporter. Nia will be a voice for the discriminated against…

It should come to no great surprise that X-Men’s Gambit movie is most likely not happening. After years of going back and forth between directors, screenwriters, and Channing Tatum, Fox is rumored to have cancelled the project all together. For fans of the X-Men franchise, this is pretty cruddy news. On top of this, it’s very possible that anticipated films like New Mutants and Dark Phoenix could never be seen. Ever since Taylor Kitsch portrayed Remy Etienne LeBeau in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, fans had been excited about the chance to see Remy get his own spin-off movie. Who wouldn’t…

I In the spirit of remakes and reboots, did you know there is a live-action/CGI Lady and the Tramp adaption in the works? According to Collider, Justin Thereoux is in negotiations with Disney over providing the voice for the Tramp. Collider also reports that Emmy nominated actress Ashley Jensen will be providing the voice to the Scottish Terrier named Jackie. This remake is based on the 1955 film, which is personally a favorite of mine. The animated movie is about a female American cocker spaniel named Lady and a male stray named Tramp. Lady comes from an upper-class family, while Tramp lives…

We are still two years away from the scheduled 2020 release of the live-action version of Mulan and the cast continues to grow. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that actor Jason Scott Lee (Dragon, Lilo and Stitch) has joined the project to play a villainous Khan in the adaptation of one of Disney’s best animated movies. The original film was about a young woman, Mulan; who decides to dress as a man to take her father’s place in the battle against the Huns, who have invaded China. It’s an incredibly inspirational movie for all young women who can see the strength Mulan gains…

Only Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) would produce a spin-off spoof version of Home Alone centering around a space cowboy who smoked too much weed and couldn’t go on his skiing trip. This sounds like I’m making it up, but the Deadpool star is seriously doing this. We all love the movie Home Alone starring Macaulay Culkin, but the film was made in 1990 and considering kids now have cell phones at the age of 5, a reboot in 2018/2019 wouldn’t make much sense. Reynolds’ solution? Pot. According to Esquire, the film is called ‘Stoned Alone’ and its described as “… a twenty-something…

Crime, thriller dramas revolving around underground drugs are a dime a dozen, but I love watching them regardless. Originally premiering at the 2017’s Tribeca Film Festival, Thumper is now available on Netflix to watch. It features a slew of familiar faces, such as Eliza Taylor (The 100), Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Pablo Schreiber (Orange is the New Black), and Daniel Webber (The Punisher). The movie centers around a handful of teens with clearly no parental supervision who involve themselves in high school and hardcore drugs. At the epicenter of it all is Wyatt Rivers, portrayed by Schreiber. Wyatt is…

It wasn’t too long ago that model Chloe Dykstra penned a letter going into detail about the sexual and mental abuse she endured while in a relationship with celebrity host Chris Hardwick. While Hardwick denied the allegations, AMC dropped Hardwick from their show Talking Dead, an after-series discussing all things surround The Walking Dead. It seems, though; after an internal investigation that AMC is ready to bring Hardwick back. After Hardwick’s dismissal, Yvette Nicole Brown took over. She monitored The Walking Dead panel at SDCC and will still host the season nine preview show on August 5th. After that, Yvette will…
