A girl with too many fandoms to count.

While Jon Bernthal is best known for his show-stopping performance as Frank Castle and memorable Shane Walsh, Bernthal also is known for something else. If you go digging through the talented actor’s career, you can find that he is pretty much the king of showing up in a film for a very short period of time and usually dying, but delivering a great show during his brief time on screen. With the movie Widows premiering November 16 of this year, we already know Bernthal’s character isn’t going to last long. The premise of the film is about the widows of several…

There’s rarely a television concept that we haven’t seen before. How many shows out there are based around crime scene detectives or sitcoms about the all American family? Stemmed from a book, American Gods certainly offers a unique storyline. Bringing together new and old gods from mythology into modern day society makes for one strange, interesting world that at times works and at times, doesn’t work. American Gods has only had one season so far and that season consisted of eight episodes. The series opens up with Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) being released from prison a few days before his…

The horror genre is not dead. While horror films have changed throughout the decades, people will still never tire of wanting to be afraid when going to the theaters. Thanks to Toni Collette, Hereditary is now the company A24’s highest grossing film worldwide. According to Deadline, Hereditary earned up to $77.5 million, pushing their previous success Lady Bird out of its place. Hereditary premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and marked Ari Aster’s directorial debut. The film focuses on Collette’s character, Annie; after the death of the matriarch of her family. Everything starts to unravel once the family finds out…

If you’ve been a fan of the AMC hit show The Walking Dead, then you have seen the most shocking season-opening, in season seven, when we were not only given a proper introduction to Negan, but also a gruesome farewell to some characters. The previous season’s finale had left us hanging, not knowing who Negan was going to pick to receive the barbed wired baseball bat of death’s wrath. When it was Abraham chosen to be mercilessly killed by Lucille (the baseball bat), we all had a moment where we thought Glenn was in the clear. In the comics, Glenn…

The Punisher season 1 is still my favorite show in the Marel Netflix universe. After introducing Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle in the second season of Daredevil, I knew that Castle’s solo series would be unlike any of the other Defenders universe shows. Gritty, raw, and explosive, The Punisher showcased the many different sides of its title character rather than just the violent soldier that we primarily saw in Daredevil. Of course, our favorite anti-hero was everything we wanted him to be, but seeing him as a friend, husband, and father was not something we were able to see before his own…

New season. New sleeve. Altered Carbon’s official twitter sent out today, announcing the renewal for a second season. The sci-fi show based on the book by Richard Morgan will return to Netflix with eight episodes, instead of the ten it had in season one. Premiering on February 2, 2018, this wildly imaginative show gauged mixed reactions, though; if you ask me, is definitely one of my favorites on the online streaming service. Primarily played by Joel Kinnaman, the show centers around Takeshi Kovacs as he awakes 250 years after originally being sentenced to a lifetime of being essentially decommissioned. We…

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]While we all love a box-office action-packed movie that cost millions to make, smaller budgeted films are near and dear to my heart. The simple story, the limited sets, and unknown actors can make for some of the most authentic storytelling, rather than relying on special effects and clichés. Some of my favorite movies include One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Girl, Interrupted. If you can see the pattern, I clearly enjoy films taking place within mental asylums. That’s what drew me to take a look at the 2014 Canadian film, Cruel and Unusual. Taking only 15 days to…

Cue the music! After a long and breath-holding journey, Disney and Fox have finally agreed upon a deal! For $71.3 billion dollars, Disney will purchase most of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire. Even though shareholders in six different countries still need to give their approval, this is a massive step for everyone, essentially shaking up the entertainment industry. If everything goes well, we will have a finalized deal in 2019. We had a moment where it seemed like this deal would not go through, with Comcast lurking in to potentially purchase Fox. Luckily, Comcast dropped out recently and the event we…

While movies and television shows have been trying to rectify the lack of diversity, the representation of the transgender community needs a serious boost. That’s why the news that Supergirl has casted activist and actress Nicole Maines as tv’s first transgender superhero is such a great first step in the right direction. Having previously worked on Royal Pains, the news of Maines’ casting was revealed at the Supergirl SDCC panel on Sunday. The actress’s character will be Nia Nal, a new addition at CatCo, who is a fierce and driven reporter. Nia will be a voice for the discriminated against…

It should come to no great surprise that X-Men’s Gambit movie is most likely not happening. After years of going back and forth between directors, screenwriters, and Channing Tatum, Fox is rumored to have cancelled the project all together. For fans of the X-Men franchise, this is pretty cruddy news. On top of this, it’s very possible that anticipated films like New Mutants and Dark Phoenix could never be seen. Ever since Taylor Kitsch portrayed Remy Etienne LeBeau in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, fans had been excited about the chance to see Remy get his own spin-off movie. Who wouldn’t…
